Work life balance as a lash artist

You finally made your dreams come true!! You opened your own lash business and are killing it as a boss babe! But are you killing it too hard? How do you know when to draw the line? How many happy hours and Saturday morning brunches with the girls have you given up in order to work with a client’s schedule? How many 12 hour days with no lunch breaks are you putting in a week? It’s important to have drive and a strong work ethic, but are you still taking care of yourself? It’s great to be in charge, but it also makes it easy to overwork yourself. If this sounds familiar, you might need to work on a healthier work/life balance.

When it comes to work/life balance, your friends and family are the fuel that keep you going! Think about your car; it runs, it works hard to get you where you need to go - BUT it can only get you so far without a new tank of gas. It can only go so long without a fresh oil change. It can only take you where you need to go a limited number of times without needing new tires. You are a car. You need breaks. You need people that are going to pour new life into you in order to keep going. You need people in your life to celebrate your victories with and to pick you up after your worst day. Take time to physically and mentally clock out. Hustling is a good thing, but do not neglect yourself and the relationships you’ve built in the meantime. It won’t be worth it in the end.

With that being said, maybe you are looking at your relationships and thinking, I take breaks to spend time with them, but I don’t feel refreshed after spending time with this person. If that is the case, you need to think about doing a deep dive into your relationships and deciding if they’re all beneficial during this time in your life. You need a strong support system if you are going to run your own business. Are the people around you supporting, encouraging, and renewing? Or do you feel drained, overwhelmed, and even stressed after spending time with them? If you stop to put gas in the car, it isn’t beneficial if you fill it up with old gas that’s been sitting in the garage for months. That’s just going to cause more problems. Your time is precious; invest your time in the people that are also investing in you!

It takes everything you’ve got to run your own business! But what good are our successes if we don’t have a support system to share them with? Don’t do life alone. Don’t drive yourself into the ground and get burnt out. Remember why you started your company in the first place and always have that passion inside you. Take time to prioritize your relationships and YOURSELF!
